Bummas were primarily designed as a drying wipe...an alternative to talcum powders and ointments for preventing diaper rashes. A diaper rash will only get worse if you're putting the clean diaper onto a still-wet bottom!
Some babies have skin that is sensitive to ingredients in powders and ointments, and some powders and ointments aren't good for our precious cloth diaper stashes!
I reviewed a set of the Tropical Ones...I love them! They have one side that is a terry cloth sort of material, (useful for the messy jobs!) and the other side is super soft for the drying jobs!
I used them both as wet wipes and as drying wipes, and I have to say that my favorite use for them was the drying. They really did a good job and are much softer than most of my other wipes are when they are dry. Katie gets diaper rashes on a fairly regular basis...mostly from her fruit allergies, (strawberries, raspberries, peaches, oranges, mangoes, etc, etc.) She has come to really dislike diaper changes, partly because of her sore bottom, so I love having something to help take care of it so gently. It really makes a difference in her squirming and whining.
The only drawback I saw in these wipes is their unusual size, (5x7) which, though handy during actual use, causes them to not fit neatly stacked in my wipes container with the rest of my wipes. This is partly why I like them better as a drying wipe...I can just keep them in a separate stack for drying only, and that eliminates that problem.
I know a lot of people have different methods for using cloth wipes and water/solution also, so in some cases this wouldn't even matter. (See my method
Another handy use for these wipes: Protecting oneself during your little boy's diaper changes... :-) One wipe is supposed to be able to soak up one of those little fountains! I didn't get to try this...since I don't have a boy, (yet!) but I believe it! The wipes are nice and thick and absorbant!
Other great uses would include nose-wiping, napkins, and bath washcloths!
