I received a Doopsy "SD" diaper last month to review
The Doopsy "SD" diaper is a one-size pocket diaper.
It comes with a 4-layer microfiber insert, an extra absorbency pad with 2 layers of bamboo hemp loop terry and their special expandable insert with 4 layers of bamboo double loop terry and a layer of PUL.
I'm still pretty new to pocket diapers, having used pretty much prefolds and covers exclusively for the first 16 months of my cloth diapering career.
I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical...it sounded kind of like a pain to have so many separate pieces and have to stuff it every time you wanted to use it. It seemed to me that it'd be difficult to get all those inserts in there without one or more of them bunching up and making unsightly and uncomfortable bumps.
Much to my delight, however, I have discovered that most of my fears were groundless!
It is not difficult to get the inserts in there, (and Katie thinks it's highly amusing when I stick my hand in there, and often requests repeat performances!)
It's easy to simply stuff it as you're folding your laundry...then it's all ready for a speedy diaper change later!
It has been a bit of a pain to have so many separate pieces (there are 4!) that are specific to this diaper when the bulk of my stash is prefolds. With my history of being able to keep track of things, (especially in the laundry...where do all my socks go??) I'm concerned that I'm going to lose one or more of the inserts one of these days!
That's pretty much the only "con" though...
...and the "pros" far out weigh it!
I love the way the Doopsy fits Victoria, (3 weeks.) It came in the mail the day she was born while I was in labor...some of the ladies in my "labor-support team" opened it up for me while I was laboring in the tub and showed me how cute it was on the teeny newborn setting...gave me a little boost of determination to get the bugger OUT. ;-)
See how cute it is??
(pictured on the smallest setting)
So many diapers are so huge and bulky on a newborn, but the Doopsy is perfectly trim and so cute on her! It's nice and soft and has comfortably snug leg openings that don't leave nasty red marks on her sweet little legs.
The Largest Setting
It's great on Katie, too...but she doesn't get to wear it much, 'cause I love using it for Victoria!
This is one of the first one-size diapers I've used...and after using it, I realize how lovely it would be to have my whole stash be one-size diapers, when I've got two different-sized kiddos in diapers at once.
In fact, it'd be pretty sweet to have my whole stash be Doopsy diapers! :-)
The side openings are super comfy!
The back elastic does a great job of preventing leaks!
The PUL-backed Expandable Insert
I haven't used this piece when I'm using the diaper on the newborn setting, so sometimes I stick it in with a prefold on Katie's diaper as an extra soaker.
The Expandable Insert pulled out & the Extra Absorbency Pad
The opening tucks in nicely, so there's no wicking
To sum up...
I definitely feel I can recommend this diaper!
I'd love to switch entirely over to these diapers!
